Love Chair, Ba-aby!

It has arrived. The "Love Chair" as Sofa Trend calls it. I love it. It's a strange story, but we saw one in a house that we had looked at and thought that it was so cool! A huge round chair! I LOVE what I call, "personality pieces." Just something a little different. Like my huge calculator at school. Kids love it.
Anyway, saw the chair at some stranger's house, looked for the brand and info and then ordered one when it came time to get our new living room furniture. It does make our living room a little...eclectic I'd say. I'm still trying to figure out just the right angle for it. But I still love it. Did I mention that?

KC Fun!

A great Saturday night spent with the Utz's! First an exciting Royals game...not exciting because they won (because they didn't) but exciting because we nearly got hit by 3 foul balls! Crazy! The girl behind us did get pelted in the stomach. Ouch! She cried for the rest of the inning. But it hit her HARD. I would have cried to. And probably left the game. Die-hard fan?

Thanks!!!

A big thank you to my grandparents who sent me this great plant on my first day of school! This year there are windows in my room so I'm hoping this one will have a better life expectancy than last years. :( My fault!
And yes...I photographed myself here using the timer. I just hope no one was walking by my classroom then to see my little photo shoot!

Bed & Bath

The rest of the completed (or mostly completed) rooms. It's hard to get good angles on these rooms. The bedroom is long and skinny making it difficult to photograph. The flash makes the shades of the bedroom walls look a bit different than in person. We took a gamble and went with a teal accent wall in the green bedroom. I really like how it turned out (in person). You'll have to come over and see it for yourself as the colors do look a little "iffy" here online!

Before...And After!

Still a few things here and there to be finished. Light fixtures still need replaced...waiting on someone to come help us do that. We do not trust ourselves with electricity and high ceilings. Also waiting on the rest of the living room furniture to be delivered and I'm still thinking on exactly what to do on top of the kitchen cabinets. All in all, our boxes are unpacked and it's starting to feel like home! Coming soon, master bedroom and hall bath pics. The other 2 bedrooms will remain as weekend projects...and it could be awhile.

AFTER...kinda. Still to come, fire pit hang-out extraordinaire!

Oh yes, kitchen cabinet update. After painting the woodwork in the living room and the corner hutch in the kitchen...I can live with just changing out the hardware on the cabinets for now. Still not my favorite...but I realize the magnitude of a cabinet painting project and will either seek professional help or at least wait until I forget how difficult it will be!

Observations

"Get To Know You Day!" Love it! Luckily I get to have FOUR of them this year because I'm teaching 9-week classes. Praise the Lord!

Here are a few things I've noticed upon making this transition to Middle School Teacher and Kansas Citian.
1. 6th graders are SO cute and innocent and fun to have in your class.
2. Somewhere between 6th and 8th grade they completely lose their innocence...and cuteness.
3. Why do so many people let their middle school child wear so much make-up? Wow!
4. Do not miss the lights! The stoplights here are LONG. You miss the light, you lose 3 minutes. You miss multiple lights...you lose 10 minutes.
5. Just because it appears to be a finished street/sidewalk on mapmyrun.com does not mean that it is actually a finished street. You may have to run through a field for awhile before getting back to your neighborhood.

Major Decisions

As the school "work days" wind down and soon turn into just school days...I reflect on what I've accomplished. And it really isn't much. Hoping to get a lot done tomorrow so I can feel completely ready. I tend to be a slow worker in making crucial decisions in regard to curriculum, procedures, and...oh yeah...clip art. This took me about 30 minutes. No joke. But isn't the chocolate chip cookie head that wears pearls (far left) just the cutest? :)

Not quite ready for kids to arrive...but almost!

Transformation #1

Not that exciting to start with the carpet cleaning...but I'm impressed with the transformation! You can see it started out super-disgusting. This is the worst part of the house, of course. The whole house smells much better post-carpet cleaning. This will hopefully help delay us from having to get new carpet for awhile. This would not have been possible without the help of my great friend, Emily. We used Rusty's Carpet Cleaning Service, who I would recommend if you need a good cleaning! He had some scheduling issues and offered to knock off $50 from the price if we could get them cleaned on Saturday...the day of Matt's cousin's wedding in Great Bend. So thank you, thank you, thank you to Em for coming over to supervise Rusty cleaning the carpets while we were out of town. And she even captured a before and after pic. Just as I've found with the rest of Dirty Dawn's house, a little cleaning and it looks much better!

Welcome Kelly!

Another addition to the blog roll, Kelly and Sophia! Her baby is so stinking adorable and her blog is so, so, laugh out loud funny! Just like Kelly. I had the best time at my FIRST KC G-Phi Alum event last night. Matt was elated when I came home and proudly announced that I love living in Olathe. Even though I don't know how to get anywhere...being close to my GPB's is where I'm meant to be!

Tea Party and more!

One of the highlights of the beach trip was our brunch at the Calabash Tea Room. So cute! We got to dress up and drink hot tea, like high society. :)
Also, more beach pics in addition to the last post. Expect me to post more beach pics at random when I need to "go there in my mind." Like in January...or in-service days. :)

Beach Trip Pics!

Super-fun and super-long beach vacay left me with a great tan to start out the school year! Of course, everyone agreed it would have been better if Matt could have joined us...but it was still a relaxing and memorable time. Maybe a calm before the storm?
