Getting Creative!

Cade and I had a blast attending the Creative Experiences event put on by Olathe Parents As Teachers. I especially enjoyed the big tub of goodies we got to take home at the end to have our own creative experiences at home. Cade enjoyed the activities but hated getting his hands messy. That's my boy!

And there's Reese pushing herself up on our box of goodies. She's always pulling herself up to the standing position these days and as a result has had a few bonks on the face when she falls. Poor little Reesie! Stop growing up so fast and those things won't happen to you!!!!

Holy Moly Half a Year!

Reese-girl saw Dr. Baker today for her six month check-up. *Sigh.* I seriously feel like maybe I stepped out to run an errand and came back to find her all grown up!!! I'm in complete denial of how old she is! They asked me at the doctor if I've been giving her a sippy cup. Um, what?! Giving my tiny new baby a sippy cup?! That thing my two-year-old drinks out of? Hasn't even crossed my mind.

But apparently it's time. Also time to introduce baby food. I was very against this with Cade and insisted on waiting until he was eight months or so. I was also set on making my own baby food and on giving him mostly still just breast milk since it does have everything a baby needs until they're one. And then I ended up with the worst eater ever. He still to this day would prefer an all-liquid diet. So we're trying a new approach. I thought I was going to cry buying baby food for Reese the other day. But we're all just going to put on our big girl pants and grow up...at some point. There is baby food in my pantry...step 1.

Reese weighed in at 14 lbs 10 oz and is 26.1 inches long. She is very mobile, crawling everywhere and pulling up on things. She loves to go after Cade's toys and anything else she shouldn't have. She's totally bored with anything that she would be allowed to play with and chew on. Six month clothes are a tad large still and she just moved up to size three diapers. She has one bottom tooth halfway in and the other middle bottom tooth just broke through a couple days ago. Dr. Baker says her top teeth are not far behind. Now I don't want to jinx it but so far we have not had the biting while nursing issues that Cade did.

See my tooth?

"Pictures, at the doctor's office? Really, Mom?!"

This girl is loved by some OSU fans

Six Month Photo Shoot...she's all about removing the bows now...NO!!!

She's always pushing up onto her feet...I think she's preparing to run from Cade.

First Fork & Screen...

Not just for Cade, but also for G-Mom and Papa! Last weekend my parents took Cade to see finding Nemo in 3-D at the fork and screen movie. I got to go along too...I love me some Fork & Screen, even when it is a movie I've already seen about 1,000 times. Cade did well but preferred to sit on the floor under the table part (he could still see the screen since each row has its own level at the Fork & Screen). He still doesn't weigh enough to keep the seat down! He was not all about wearing the 3D glasses but didn't seem to care that the screen was a little blurry without them.
G-mom and Papa weren't huge fans of eating in the dark...so my mom kept using her crazy bright cell phone flash light. Yes, we were totally those people. But it was an experience. Memories were made!

Girl Time

We have, what seems like, weekly photo shoots on Sunday afternoons while the boys nap. It's our fun little girl time. Combatting that whole "no pictures of the second child thing." She's just so smiley and fun to photograph! Even from any angle!

When certain people come to town...

We get "Poked."

Get it? As in Oklahoma State cowboy fans take over dressing the kids and make them say things like "Go Pokes!"

The Balancing Act

Ah, Friday. Only a wee bit of Friday left but I welcome the weekend. I'm just returning home from the grocery store actually. I'm still trying to figure out how to balance it all. The evenings go by so quickly between trying to get time with the kids, prepare and clean up the meals, get everyone bathed and tucked in and still have time to get some things done around the house. Let alone throw in some evening activities here and there. We're five weeks into the school year and I feel like I manage everything a little worse each week. The house is a wreck by Wednesday and with each day the daily tasks grow more daunting. Heck, my only convenient time to grocery shop is 11pm on Friday?! I know you've been there. Maybe you are there. I know I'm preaching to the choir here and that everyone battles these same things. Right? If not, at least let me believe that everyone has these feelings.

Reese turned six months old today. I'm in shock and disbelief. Half of a year! Holy cow. (Insert guilt for forgetting to take her monthly pic here!)

We're finishing up the life skills unit in my classes at school. These lessons are more lecture and discussion based as opposed to the activities of the sewing and food prep units. I know the kids find these the most boring but they are actually my favorite. Believe it or not I did not become a FACS teacher to sew. Man I hate that part. It makes me want to poke my own eyes out. But the nutrition and consumer skills lessons, the things that impact everyone in some form or another...things that really matter in life...that's what I love talking about with them. Although I wonder what qualifies me to teach anyone about managing "real life" --we did have some great class discussions. Now I'm sure these discussions would be a little less one-sided if I was having them with people like you who understand and face these challenges daily and not 15 years from now--they actually had a lot of insight. The sixth-graders had so many questions about nutrition. Great questions. Questions all consumers probably have. Diet or regular soda? Margarine or butter? What's the big deal about high fructose corn syrup? The seventh-graders were baffled by all the different types of insurance (aren't we all?) and the eighth-graders were pissed that the government was taking so much in deductions from their paychecks. Real life. Fun stuff.

And as I reflect on this past week and my many weaknesses, I am thankful. I love my job and the silly interactions I get to have with middle school minds. I, of course, love my husband and sweet kids and am so grateful that we have a wonderful sitter where I know the kids are well taken care of and having a blast. I'll get the hang of this balancing act someday. Maybe not next week (especially since we have PT conferences--I've sufficiently stocked the freezer with chicken nuggets and frozen pizzas in my absence). But someday...
