Whirly Ball

We attended the 31st birthday party of one of our friends over the weekend. He had a Whirly Ball party at Power Play in Shawnee. Ten, age 30ish guys ramming each other in bumper cars while playing a version of lacrosse. Matt loved it! I sat outside the glass with the other wives and family members. I was the only one who took pics...luckily Matt wasn't too embarassed by me. It looked like fun, however the sign stated that pregnant women and people with pacemakers weren't allowed on the court. Maybe we'll make a return trip to Power Play at some point. They had everything! Mini golf, bowling, go carts, arcade games, a buffet, playground equipment, air hockey, laser tag, an ice cream shop and even a Starbucks! Don't be fooled by the Starbucks though, I still felt the need to use gobs of hand sanitizer after leaving this place. You know, it just gave you that dirty feeling. But isn't Matt so cute?

Attacking the birthday boy

The whole pack running wild.

33 Weeks

Okay, I get it, the last post was a little TOO informational. So I'll stick with posting pictures of my enormous belly instead. :)

I used to like this dress until I saw these pictures! Whoa!

Baby K is sitting up so high. He really is in my ribs...no wonder I have crazy heart burn! He's all out front too. I hate to admit it, but everyone is right. I am carrying just like my mom did when she was pregnant. I remember vividly (I was 9 years old) thinking that my mom was the hugest pregnant lady I'd ever seen when she was pregnant with MaKenzie. (No offense, Mom, these are facts). And now I'm looking more and more like that each day! Let's just disregard the fact that MaKenzie was a 9 pound baby. That is where our stories will differ...please no bigger than 7 1/2 pounds...please.

Pregnancy Tip of the Day

I receive a little pregnancy "tip" email everyday. You know, be sure to drink enough water, here's what's going on with your baby today, etc, etc. Today's was particularly disturbing. Picture and all. So I thought I'd share. Why not? And while I know many of you have already successfully delivered several placentas...shouldn't my fears be your fears? :)

Labor & Delivery
Stage 3: Delivering the Placenta
Your baby has been born, but you need to deliver the placenta.
With baby finally out of your birth canal and into your arms, the hard work is over — but childbirth isn't. It may seem a little anticlimactic ("it's a placenta!"), but this last stage of childbirth is actually a very important one — and a very symbolic one. The placenta, also known as afterbirth, provided bed and board for your baby for most of his or her stay in your uterus, and its delivery represents the end of that era, and the beginning of a new one (life on the outside).

This last stage of childbirth usually lasts anywhere from five to 20 minutes or more. Mild contractions that last about a minute each (you may not even notice them, if you can believe that) will help separate the placenta from the uterine wall and move it through the birth canal so that you can push it out. Your practitioner may help speed up the process by putting gentle pressure on your uterus. Once the placenta is delivered (make sure you take a good, long, marveling look at it — it's truly an amazing piece of nature's handiwork), your practitioner will stitch up any tears and you'll be free to enjoy your new baby. (Now's a good time to have a loving cuddle with your exhausted partner, too — he's probably feeling as exhilarated and overwhelmed as you are.)

After delivery you'll notice bloody vaginal discharge (called lochia) that's comparable to a heavy period, and you may experience chills. Expect to feel hungry and thirsty (especially if labor was long and you weren't able to eat or drink) and a wide range of emotions — especially relief, elation, and impatience to get your hands on the baby!
Congratulations — you did it!

Thought Provoking Statements

This was an email forward I received that I thought was entertaining.

1. I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.

2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.

5. How the heck are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

6. Was learning cursive really necessary?

7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on #5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

9. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.

11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren't going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.

12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection . . . again.

13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page research paper that I swear I did not make any changes to.

14. "Do not machine wash or tumble dry" means I will never wash this -- ever.

15. I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello? Darn it!), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voice mail. What did you do after I didn't answer? Drop the phone and run away?

16. I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste!

17. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

18. I think the freezer deserves a light as well.

19. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lite than with Kay.

21. Sometimes, I'll watch a movie that I watched when I was younger and suddenly realize I had no idea what the heck was going on when I first saw it.

22. I would rather try to carry 10 plastic grocery bags in each hand than take 2 trips to bring my groceries in.

23. The only time I look forward to a red light is when I'm trying to finish a text.

24. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

25. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear or understand a word they said?

26. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!

27. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, they just smell.

28. Is it just me or do high school kids lose some of their intelligence every year?

29. There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

30. As a driver I hate pedestrians, and as a pedestrian I hate drivers, but no matter what the mode of transportation, I always hate cyclists.

31. Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

32. Even under ideal conditions, people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet my last dollar everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time!

33. Even when opportunity knocks, you still have to get off your rear end and open the door.

Beyond Blessed

I have the greatest friends and family ever! Emily and Kelly threw a wonderful shower for Baby K and I on Saturday. Despite the "springy" weather (which included about 6 inches of snow), my beautiful friends and family members traveled from near and far to join us! It was a very special afternoon!
What a great looking group!

Emily's super-cute and super-clean home was decorated with little baby boy clothing everywhere!

Yummy food!

ADORABLE diaper cake! Love it!

We played several fun games, including the "Dirty Diaper" game.

Cute frame and Patches bear from Grandmama

Thanks so much everyone! A huge thanks to Emily and Kelly for all of their hard work! It's so exciting to fill the room up and feel more and more ready for his arrival! 50 days!

Baby K's Hang Out

A couple days into Spring Break and much progress has been made! Mom came up to help and it only took one day to transform the green computer room into the BLUE baby room! (It's a tiny little room so my camera angles aren't wonderful, but you get the idea).

Terrible wall-paper border removed, taped and ready. Good-bye green.

Painting done!

Now Matt, the furniture assembly expert, takes over.

Wall Hangings from Hobby Lobby

Couldn't pass up anything basketball themed, especially these cute little knobs!

The glider I got for Christmas.

Dresser from Nebraska Furniture Mart. Word to the wise, never buy the completely overpriced dressers that are sold with the cribs. This dresser cost 1/4 as much as the one that technically matches the crib and looks just as great!

The little shoes and jacket hanging from the shelf were Matt's when he was little. The coat was actually worn by his dad when he was a little guy too!

Thanks, Mom!

It's so fun to think about all that will take place in this room. We can't wait for this little guy to move out of my belly and into this room!
P.S. If anyone says this room looks like a KU room, I will get angry. Of course, that awful red & blue of KU was not the inspiration here. :)

Paparazzi Matt

So the conversation went something like this...
Matt: You needed to post the picture of you turned to the side. We can't see your belly.
Jana: I know, that's what everyone is saying...I just hate profile shots.
Matt: Let's take more pictures right now then.

Matt: You need to take that black thing off. It just looks like you're hiding something under there.
Jana: Fine, but I'm sticking my tongue out at you.

Sly look on face = Ha, ha, I just stuck my tongue out at you.
Seeing the pics now, I guess Paparazzi Matt was right. But I still hate profile pictures.
And PS: 62 days to go...we better get a lot done over Spring Break!
